El Equipo

Deze indrukwekkende documentaire toont hoe wetenschap een pijler werd van een universeel gevecht voor mensenrechten. Het verhaal start in de jaren tachtig, wanneer een groep Argentijnse studenten besluit de legendarische forensisch wetenschapper Clyde Snow te helpen met zijn onderzoek naar de desaparacidos – de duizenden mensen die ‘verdwenen’ tijdens de Argentijnse dictatuur in de jaren daarvoor.  

Met succes, want dit team wordt de decennia daarna over de hele wereld opgeroepen om te graven naar de waarheid achter bloedbaden en massagraven, van Koerdistan tot Ethiopië tot de afgrijselijke El Mozoto-slachting in El Salvador. Overal weten de wetenschappers de waarheid boven tafel te krijgen, maar dat is niet zonder gevaar. 

TALK War crimes like those in El Equipo are unfortunately not a thing of the past. As a matter of fact: in places like Ukraine and Gaza they are day-to-day business. Argentinian forensic anthropologist Mercedes Doretti – one of the main characters in the film – will therefore join us. Together with Dutch Lieutenant Colonel Angelo Wouters, head of the Forensic Investigation Team that did research on war crimes in Ukraine. They will give us more insight in the work they do and the impact of their research. Not only to the Court of Appeal in The Hague, but also to the families of the victims.
