Coextinction

In de Canadese documentaire Coextinction onderzoeken twee gepassioneerde filmmakers het lot van de bedreigde orka. Dat brengt ze in contact met activisten, Inheemse leiders en gerenommeerde wetenschappers op een ontdekkingstocht die al snel vele andere gevaren in het lokale ecosysteem blootlegt.

Voorafgaand aan deze film wordt de korte film ‘Listen to the Beat of Our Images’ vertoond, een bijzondere essayfilm over de duistere koloniale kanten van de ruimtevaart.

TALK ‘Not one orca was lost when we stewarded the land.’ In Coextinction, Indigenous communities in the United States and Canada show how a disturbed ecosystem affects them, and how they always fought against these damaging changes. This is true for many Indigenous activists all over the world. Chautuileo Tranamil, Mapuche-Pewenche herself, shares the meaning of orcas in Mapuche culture and draws comparisons between the struggles in the documentary and those of her own community in Chili.  

This program is a collaboration with art & climate festival ‘Nimma aan zee’, that takes place on 9, 10 and 11 June 2023 in LUX.
