The Space Race

The bright dreams of Afrofuturism come true in The Space Race, an inspiring portrait of pioneering black pilots, scientists and engineers who joined NASA to serve their country in space – even as that same country fails to achieve equality for all its citizens on earth. 

This documentary weaves together the stories of black astronauts who battled deep social injustice by reaching for the stars, showing us new heroes to honor and fresh history to explore. 

TALK In de strijd tegen sociale ongelijkheid speelt representatie een zeer belangrijke rol. Dat weten ook de samenstellers van het boek Bedtijdverhalen voor rebelse meisjes. Schrijfster en vertaalster Laila de Miranda, die  meewerkte aan de twee Nederlandse edities van het boek, vertelt over het belang van representatie in (kinder)boeken. De Miranda trapt het gesprek af met een spoken word performance.
