Podcastnetwerk meets InScience Film Festival
Talks
For the first time this year, the Podcastfestival and the InScience Film Festival are joining forces to present a special audio-only program on March 12, designed for both audio enthusiasts and (aspiring) creators. During the day, LUX will host a program featuring workshops and a pitch session, while in the evening, Dylan Keefe, Director of Sound Design for the renowned New York-based science podcast Radiolab, will deliver the keynote talk.
The goal of this audio-only program is to foster innovative and accessible podcast-making. The day kicks off with a free Podcast Repair Café at the Mariënburg Library, made possible with support from the Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie and Het Cultuurfonds.
Program Schedule
12:00 – 13:00 | Networking Lunch
Welcome back to Nijmegen, welcome back to InScience, and welcome back to the Podcastfestival! Scan your ticket, grab some lunch, and connect with fellow podcast creators.
13:00 – 15:00 | Workshop Program
Workshop: Business Sh*t for Podcast Creators
In this workshop, Astrid Cornelisse dives into the common pitfalls and awkward situations that often arise in podcast contract negotiations. This is the practical business hassle that creators would rather avoid—but ignoring it could lead to unexpected financial or legal surprises. Drawing from her extensive experience in the field and input from participants, Astrid provides essential tips that will benefit you in every negotiation. And if not, at least your accountant will thank you.
About the Workshop Host:
Astrid Cornelisse (Van Horen Zeggen Audioproducties) is a podcast maker and investigative journalist. She has worked on Bezopen, De Toekomst is Grijs (both for Omroep Max), NRC Onder de Streep, and has served as editor-in-chief for Het Ultimatum (Trouw), Welkom in de Volksbuurt (Omroep Max), and Na Sluitingstijd (Dagblad van het Noorden). Before going freelance, she worked as a podcast coordinator at KRO-NCRV and as an investigative journalist for Pointer Radio and Argos. Astrid has an inexplicable fondness for unraveling complex financial and legal topics—sometimes turning them into stories, and in other cases offering (solicited or unsolicited) advice to fellow freelancers.
Workshop: Sound Before Words
In this workshop, Dylan Keefe, Director of Sound Design at Radiolab (WNYC), explores how to explain scientific theory through sound rather than just words. Using examples from various episodes, participants will be introduced to the “diagrammatic approach”, where small scenes are used to convey complex ideas in an incredibly effective way.
Note: This workshop will be conducted in English.
About the Workshop Host:
Dylan Keefe is the Director of Sound Design at WNYC’s Radiolab. He has worked for 24 years as a sound designer, technical director, mixing engineer, and composer, spending half of that time at Radiolab. Before joining Radiolab, Dylan played a key role in shaping the sound of On the Media and The Takeaway and was also a renowned recording and touring musician. He has been part of two Peabody Award-winning teams and is a founding member of the multi-platinum American rock band Marcy Playground.
All ticket holders have access to both workshops—no need to choose!
15:00 – 15:15 | Break
15:15 – 17:00 | Podcast Pitch Competition Finals
The Podcast Pitch Competition returns with a fresh new format! Until the end of January, anyone could submit a pitch, and a randomly selected group of five Podcastfestival friends has chosen five finalists from all entries. Over the past month, these finalists have refined their pitches with the guidance of Kadija Kabba (DPG Media, among others).
During the final round, each finalist will present their pitch live, followed by questions from an industry expert—right in front of an audience. Feel the tension and pick up valuable insights for your next podcast pitch!
17:00 – 18:00 | Drinks & Winner Announcement
Raise a glass as the jury announces the winner of the Podcast Pitch Competition!
18:00 – 19:30 | Dinner Break
Attendees are free to grab dinner at their own convenience.
19:30 – 21:00 | Keynote: Dylan Keefe
Dylan Keefe, Director of Sound Design at the award-winning podcast Radiolab (WNYC, USA), takes us deep into the world of auditory storytelling. His keynote will go beyond technical sound editing to explore the editorial role of sound design in non-fiction storytelling—and how it can bring compelling stories to life with journalistic integrity.
