My Word Against Mine
Film
- Language talk: Dutch
Winner of the IDFA Dutch Documentary Award and second place for the Audience Award, My Word Against Mine presents five testimonies from people who hear voices in their heads – voices that interact with, advise, and sometimes control them in everyday life.
With one in ten people experiencing voice-hearing, the film shows that this phenomenon is far from rare. Through carefully guided therapy sessions, a psychiatrist enters into dialogue with both the individuals and their voices. Rather than diagnosing or labeling, the film creates space for genuine conversation, allowing participants to explore the traumas that preceded the voices. Poignant and intimate, My Word Against Mine reveals how these individuals relate to their inner lives and the profound impact such therapy can have.
