A scientific, artsy, and folkloric journey through Britain’s wild edges, Lost for Words listens to shifting languages of nature, asking what fades as words disappear.
What do we lose when children’s dictionaries drop “acorn” and “dandelion” to make room for “blog” and “broadband”? Drifting through the four seasons of the British Isles, the film weaves a tapestry of lochs, moors, and coastlines with the voices of scientists, artists, and storytellers. Speaking of otters and oakwoods, tides and skylarks, they braid science, folklore, and memory to ask how the fading of nature words mirrors the disappearance of the living world. Based on the book by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris, the film becomes a tender yet urgent invitation to reflect on our time, what we are losing, and how to reconnect with the wild.
