La Grande Bouffe (1973)
Film geprogrameerd door Lux
This satirical classic is the perfect appetizer for the festive 10th edition of InScience, which this year focuses on food with the theme ‘Food for Thought.’
Four affluent middle-aged men decide to eat themselves to death. Ferreri depicts the binge fest in great detail. La grande bouffe was immediately controversial upon its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was either regarded as the most disgusting and decadent film in French history or as an effective, brutal, and radical attack on the establishment. A hefty dose of social criticism, told through a food orgy of excesses and shy jokes, carried by greats like Marcello Mastroianni and Michel Piccoli.
