Homecoming
Film
At a turning point in history, museums must confront their colonial past. What does it mean to return objects, and what is truly being restored?
When the National Museum of Finland repatriates thousands of everyday objects taken from the Sámi people, filmmaker Suvi West takes us behind the scenes. More than a story of museum politics, Homecoming is a philosophical and visual meditation on heritage, identity, and the ethics of representation. The film shows that repatriation is more than a legal or institutional act. In questioning what it means to truly return something, the film invites us to rethink our relationship with heritage, memory, and belonging.
