part of QUEER DAY |
As trans rights and reproductive care come under increasing political pressure, a courageous doctor guides patients through IVF and gender-affirming procedures, challenging bureaucracy and prejudice. But how far can one doctor bend the system?
GEN_ follows Dr. Maurizio Bini, a maverick endocrinologist at Milan’s Niguarda public hospital, as he practices within the rigid confines of a conservative political climate. Observational and intimate, the film lingers on close-ups and private conversations, revealing how Dr. Bini evaluates and guides patients through complex, deeply personal medical decisions. Tender, unflinching, and illuminating, GEN_ portrays the transformative power of medicine, showing how care delivered with courage, expertise, and empathy can reshape lives. In doing so, Dr. Bini challenges societal constraints and honours deeply human needs that remain urgent yet taboo in today’s fraught political landscape.
