At this year’s InScience exhibition, the newly founded Stichting LINK is showcasing four works by alumni of the Design Art Technology department of ArtEZ Arnhem. Over the past four years, the department has collaborated closely with NXP Semiconductors to engage students with semiconductor technology. The collaboration led to the creation of Stichting LINK, which aims to promote the rich history of the semiconductor industry and its technology to a broader audience. The four video and light installations serve as a preview for the upcoming exhibition Together We Make It Smaller And Faster which will be held in November 2023 at the Huis van de Nijmeegse Geschiedenis. The exhibition promises to be an exciting showcase of innovative projects that explore the intersection of technology, art, and science, and will provide viewers with unique perspectives and experiences.

  • Jolie van Wijngaarden’s installation The Magical World Of The Wafer showcases the colorful and gradient-filled wafers used in various chip technologies. The installation aims to show the magical qualities of wafers, as they are often hidden from view once they are used in different electronic devices.
  • The surrealist short film, Through The Microscope Glass, by Michelle Feelders, takes viewers on a journey through the microscopic world of electronics produced by NXP Semiconductors. The film allows people to see these electronics in a very different light and enables viewers to see the work processes that are happening within the factory walls of NXP.
  • Vision Processor: EN471 is a multiscreen work by Florian van Zandwijk. It uses machine learning algorithms to classify existing footage of people wearing yellow vests in their context and meaning, raising questions about the ability of computer vision to discern human intentions.
  • The vertical film Square World by Wessel Bosscher explores the tendency to make everything rectangular, inspired by the shape of silicon wafers. Moving from an atomic to a global level, this vertical world is mesmerizing and magical.
