InScience and Keuringsdienst van Waarde explore human hyper-efficiency in food production: how far can we push animal modification?

For over twenty years, Keuringsdienst van Waarde has been diving into the fascinating world of our food, asking simple questions that reveal astonishing answers. This consumer television program critically investigates the stories behind everyday supermarket products—often sparking controversy along the way.

At the invitation of InScience Film Festival, Keuringsdienst van Waarde is coming to Nijmegen. In this Big Ideas program, they take you on a journey into human hyper-efficiency within the world of food production.

After screening experts from Keuringsdienst van Waarde, editor-in-chief Maarten Remmers, scholar of animal and sustainable food systems Imke de Boer and philosopher Luca Consoli will discuss, among other things, how animals are modified to maximize production. What impact do these innovations have on animal welfare and biodiversity? Where exactly does the ethical boundary lie, and can it be determined unequivocally? And do animal welfare arguments actually have sufficient moral force to bring about behavioral change where necessary?
