Stones, with their deceptive liveliness, often make us forget their true nature: a record of aeons beyond our reach.

After his lyrical exploration of all things fluid in Aquarela (2018), filmmaker Viktor Kossakovsky now turns his focus to the solid manifestations of our world—rocks, gravel, boulders, and concrete. With an eye on the political and social implications of stones, Kossakovsky opens with the rubble of war-torn Ukraine in the prologue, later showing the devastation caused by the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes. The film is a contemplative poem on rocks, anchored by scenes of the seasoned and reflective Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, who works on his philosophical garden project. The imagery is underscored by symphonic and visually arresting slow-motion shots, complemented by a hypnotic, moody score.
