Toekomstbeelden InScience 2027: Migration
What if you had to start over somewhere else? You’d get new opportunities, for example, to learn a language and discover a new culture. At the same time, you’d leave the place you’d called home for so long. What happens if you had to flee war, the climate, your past, or yourself? Future Visions explores everything related to this theme.
We ask filmmakers to explore the theme of migration. What awaits us in the future? What is the most utopian outcome, or perhaps a dystopian one? We’re particularly looking for stories we don’t often hear, from filmmakers who don’t get a chance to speak. But feel free to explore the theme as you see fit. Perhaps you can tell us something about the future migrations of a bird species or the Exodus of an alien race to Earth.
About Toekomstbeelden
Toekomstbeelden is an innovative film project initiated by the InScience Film Festival and Radboud University. In this project, filmmakers co-create short fiction films with scientists and experts on a predetermined theme. For the 2026-2027 edition, the theme is “Migration”.
The films will depict collaboratively formulated future scenarios surrounding displacement, borders, and home, and serve as a starting point for discussion and reflection. The films will premiere during the InScience Film Festival in March 2027 and will then be widely used in education and societal contexts.

How do I sign up?
Send an email to info@insciencefestival.nl introducing yourself as a filmmaker, along with a CV and a motivation letter for the project. Why are you the right person to co-create a film on the theme of migration? We encourage creative pitches. Please note: because this is a co-creation project, you don’t have to submit ideas for the film itself (yet); please introduce yourself first.
The deadline is February 22nd. Also, mark March 6th in your calendars – that’s when the selected filmmakers will have the opportunity to present themselves to a panel. The first part of the project consists of co-creation sessions. The final films will premiere during the InScience Film Festival 2027.
