InScience Film Festival

Open Call for filmmakers

The Radboud University has a rich heritage collection. In collaboration with InScience, the university invites filmmakers to be inspired by the heritage, stories and people of Radboud University as artists-in-residence and to work with that.

Radboud Heritage

In its 101-year history, Radboud University has built up an extensive heritage collection through research and education, which is often used by students and researchers. It is a rich collection that reflects the history of education, science and the university itself. In addition, the university has numerous collections and objects that are sometimes still in use, but which have often lost their original function: the ‘zwerfgoedcollectie’. Radboud University is conducting a search through all these collections: what do we want to preserve? And what stories do these litter collections tell about the university and the people associated with it?

Residence

To portray these stories, Radboud University, in collaboration with InScience, is looking for filmmakers! As an artist-in-residence, join us in the search for the university’s ‘litter’, be inspired and – in your own way – shape the stories surrounding the collection and its significance for the university community.

For this residency we are looking for a maker to make a (short) film or audiovisual installation that can be shown in 2025 during the tenth edition of the InScience Film Festival and that draws attention to the heritage of Radboud University. If you are interested, please register no later than May 1, 2024. We will then select a limited number of makers to explore the university’s heritage with us on May 15 during a tour of the campus. They then submit a proposal before June 1 and are invited for a pitch on June 7. Shortly afterwards we will announce who will have access to the collection for filming as an artist-in-residence in the summer and autumn of 2024. The residency runs until February 1, 2025.

For whom?

Everyone can compete. We expressly invite novice filmmakers from the Nijmegen region and/or filmmakers with a relationship with Radboud University. An amount of € 10,000 (incl. VAT) is available for the maker.

How?

/ You must register no later than May 1, 2024 with a concise motivation (of maximum 300 words) on an A4 sheet. In addition to this motivation, we would like to receive your name, address, telephone number and email address, a short CV and (a link to) two projects that you consider representative of your work.

/ The makers who are invited, accompanied by Radboud University, will visit the depots and warehouses of Radboud University where heritage is preserved on May 15 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This way you can be inspired to make a proposal for the residence.

/ You then create a detailed concept for the form you prefer and submit it no later than June 1, 2024. You will present your proposal in a pitch on June 7, 2024. During this pitch you will discuss the concept, the approach/method and the possible result. Also give an impression of the atmosphere.
