InScience X Stevensloop: special program
The Alfa Laval Stevensloop and science film festival InScience are joining forces with a program on running, on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 March. On Friday evening the film Kipchoge: The Last Milestone will be screened. On Saturday evening, the participants of the Stevens Stadscross will walk right through InScience’s Amazing Discoveries Stage on the Mariënburg.
Discount for runners
All runners who participate in the Stevens Stadscross and Alfa Laval Stevensloop receive a five euro discount on the ticket for the film. Kipchoge: The Last Milestone depicts the story of Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge, who wants to run a marathon in less than two hours. This thrilling documentary follows Kipchoge as he prepares for this superhuman feat and explains how groundbreaking science helps him achieve it.
After the screening, exercise physiologist Thijs Eijsvogels (Radboudumc) and a top athlete will discuss the limits of the human body.
The Amazing Discoveries Stage of InScience is one of the eye-catchers on the Stevens Stadscross this year. The city cross goes right through the city center of Nijmegen and through several well-known Nijmegen buildings. New this year is the passage through the special dome of InScience. A unique short film plays in this large dome tent on the Mariënburg to give the runners a helping hand. The city crossers also run through a beautifully lit Stevenskerk and through the Museum of nature and cultural history De Bastei.
Participants in the half marathon of the Alfa Laval Stevensloop between the ages of 40 and 69 can participate in the research of Radboudumc. The Department of Physiology is investigating whether signal substances from the heart that are released during exercise can be used to detect cardiovascular disease at an early stage. The results can be used to improve the screening of athletes for cardiovascular disease. In addition, all participants in the study receive a free ticket for a program of their choice at InScience. More information about the study and a registration form can be found at: www.radboudumc.nl/TREAT
