The polarising debate surrounding genetically modified food is marked by fear, suspicion and confusion. Neil DeGrasse Tyson narrates a journey to Hawaiian papaya groves, Ugandan banana farms and Iowan cornfields. The documentary analyses today’s food-related challenges, the critical role played by science in addressing these challenges and public perceptions and misunderstandings.
Prof. dr. Michel Haring is Professor of Plant Physiology at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS) at the University of Amsterdam. Haring was featured in the Zembla episode: the Monsanto method, in which he criticized Monsanto’s patent practice. His current research focuses on the signal transduction of plants, simply how plants communicate with each other and their environment. The areas of expertise of Haring include plant physiology, fragrances, resistance mechanisms, genetic modification and ecological agriculture.
