One Table Two Elephants
Two Swedish researchers in ecology travel to Cape Town to conduct anthropological population research from a transparent perspective. There they meet all kinds of people, from biologists to hip hop crews who are fighting to protect the ecological functions and the biodiversity of the city. How do people, animals, city and nature live together in this area?
One Table Two Elephants is a research film essay created by Jacob von Heland and Henrik Ernstson from the Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm. It is part of the Ways of Knowing Urban Ecologies research project that investigates how different groups create knowledge about urban nature, thereby shaping the future of the city, its ecology, and its meaning to the people of the city. After the film they will have an in depth discussion about film-as-research and research-as-film in Cape Town with dr. Emiel Martens, media researcher and film producer (University of Amsterdam), and dr. Karwan Fatah-Black, expert in Dutch colonial history (Leiden University).
