Brilliant Darkness: Hotaru in the Night

Brilliant Darkness: Hotaru in the Night

In many areas around the world the night is brightened by the lights of the fireflies. Sadly, these lights are slowly going out, as there are less and less fireflies around. In this short documentary we get to see the beauty of these beetles, as well as their importance to the world and to various cultures. Several scientists try to understand why the fireflies are dying and also try to find ways how we as humans can help to prevent this. A theory is that the rise of artificial light played an important part in the demise of the firefly.
